Man Identified in Fatal Long Beach Fire

The man was found dead inside his house following a fire Saturday.

A 62-year-old man found dead inside a burning East Long Beach home was identified today.

Mark Allen Conway died in the blaze, coroner's Lt. Joe Bale said.

The fire was reported at 11:36 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Peabody Street, firefighter Will Nash said.

"It was well-involved when the first unit arrived four minutes later," Nash said.

Conway was found in the living room area, and pronounced dead at the scene, Nash said. It was unclear why the man did not get out of the home, although it was believed he was somewhat disabled. A cat was also found dead in the home, he said.

It appeared the fire started in the kitchen, although the exact cause was under investigation, Nash said.
