Long Beach Woman, 61, Killed Crossing a Street

Police said the pedestrian was walking outside of a cross-walk Friday night when she was struck by a car driven by a Long Beach man, who was not arrested pending an investigation.

A 61-year-old woman was fatally injured crossing a Long Beach street after a car struck her near Pacific Avenue and 25th Street, Long Beach Police Department said Saturday.

The fatally injured woman was not named because her family has not been reached about her death, but police said Saturday that the investigation so far indicates that she was not in a crosswalk when she hit by the vehicle.

The driver, a 51-year-old Long Beach man, whom police also did not name, was questioned at the scene of the Friday night crash, did not receive a citation and the accident probe remains underway.

On Friday, August 24, 2012, at approximately 8:08 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 25th Street, that resulted in the death of an adult female.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a female pedestrian lying in the street with multiple injuries.  Paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department transported her to a local hospital  where she was later pronounced deceased. 

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian attempted to cross Pacific Avenue westbound outside of a crosswalk south of 25th Street, when she was struck  by a 1990 Plymouth Voyager van that  was traveling southbound on Pacific Avenue. 

 The victim is only being identified as a 61-year-old female resident of Long Beach, pending notification to her family. The driver, a 51-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was questioned and released at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and it is undetermined if any charges are pending.
