Long Beach Teen Accidentally Shot This Morning

An adult in the home near Third and Cherry may have been cleaning the weapon at the time.

A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized this morning, for what a Long Beach police department spokeswoman said appears to have been an accidental gunshot wound to his torso.

The shooting was reported at 9:46 p.m. Sunday, in the 3500 block of Cherry Avenue, said police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.

``An adult male in the residence was handling the gun, possibly performing maintenance, when it discharged,'' Massacani said. ``By the preliminary investigation it appears as though the incident was accidental.''
