Long Beach Shooting Victim Named

The man fatally wounded on 14th Street is identified.

The L.A. Coroner has notified the family and released the name of the man who was fatally shot on 14th Street between Cherry and Junipero in what Long Beach Police Department is investigating as a homicide.

The victim was identified as Calvin Lewis, 28, of Signal Hill, by an investigator with the Coroner's Office.

Lewis was shot around 4:50 p.m. Monday, when were called to the scene and found him lying on the ground in the 2200 block of East 14th Street between Junipero and Cherry Avenues; he'd been wounded in the upper body, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani, and a dispute with someone preceded the gunfire.

Lewis was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said corner's Lt. Joe Bale.
