Update: Long Beach Roommate Fight Ends in Fatal Shooting

After the pair argue, one shoots the other, police say.

Updated Tuesday at 10 p.m. with victim ID.

A fight between roommates led to one fatally shooting the other, and a suspect's arrest, Long Beach Police Department said Monday.

The victim had not been named pending family notified of his death, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said in an e-mailed news release.

The Los Angeles Coroner's Office Tuesday night identified the victim as 47-year-old Carl Madarang Arambulo.

Officers called to a residence in the 3100 block of Easy Avenue, near the 710 Freeway and Spring Street, about 8:30 p.m. Sunday found the victim wounded, and he was taken to a hospital but later died, Pratt's release said.

About three hours later and six miles away at a home in the 6800 block of Myrtle Avenue, near the 710 Freeway and Artesia Boulevard, police arrested the suspected shooter, whom they identified as Benjamin Elpuz, 36, of Long Beach.  He was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to the Long Beach City Jail, and held on $1 million bail, Pratt wrote.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at (562) 570-7244.  Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.
