Long Beach Police Stand-Off Ends

A despondent man is reportedly being evaluated after Wednesday incident.

Long Beach police took a man into custody today for a mental evaluation after a relative reported that he was despondent and possibly armed.

Police surrounded a condominium in the 300 block of Ocean Boulevard shortly after noon, Long Beach police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani said. The man eventually surrendered to police, she said, declining to say whether a gun was seized.

If law enforcement officers believe a person is a danger to himself or others, they can have the person held for a 72-hour mental evaluation.
