New Update: Long Beach Police Fatally Shoot Suspect

Police answering a disturbance call find an attack and fire at fleeing male.

New Update, 5pm 8/29: Sgt. Rico Fernandez, spokesman for the LBPD, said there will be no further release of information ata present time, and the case is under investigation.

Update: The person shot by Long Beach police has died. We will update with more details later today, as we get them.

Called to the scene of unknown trouble, Long Beach police tonight shot and wounded what they described as one of multiple suspects fleeing an attack.

The officer-involved shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. at Long Beach Boulevard and 10th Street, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Rico Fernandez.

He said officers responded to a call reporting some kind of incident that resulted in one person being injured.

``The suspects were fleeing the scene as officers arrived,'' Fernandez said. ``There was a short pursuit and an officer involved shooting occurred. One suspect was hit.''

It was unclear how the original call's victim was injured, Fernandez said. There was no information released on the condition of the person wounded in the officer-involved shooting.

Police shot a suspect tonight less than two hours ago in Long Beach, according to City News Service. The officer-involved shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. at Long Beach Boulevard and Tenth Street, said Sgt. Rico Fernandez of the Long Beach Police Department.

``There was an officer-involved shooting and one suspect was hit,'' said Fernandez, the department's spokesmn.
