Long Beach Man Killed In Crash

An infant was critically injured in the collision that claimed the man's life.

Police today investigated a three-vehicle collision that killed a 30-year-old Long Beach man in Huntington Beach and left a 7-month-old baby hospitalized in critical condition.

The crash occurred at 7:31 a.m. Wednesday on Bolsa Chica Street near Tasman Drive, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Gary Faust. A Ford Bronco driven by a woman was northbound on Bolsa Chica Street when it crossed the center divider, went into the southbound lanes and hit a southbound car, killing its driver, Faust said.

A Huntington Beach police sergeant said this morning that he did not know the condition of the infant, who was transported, along with her mother, to a hospital for treatment.

Orange County coroner's officials said Abraham Perez was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, the Orange County Register reported. A third vehicle, also southbound, was involved in the accident and sustained minor damage. The driver was transported for hospital examination.

It was not immediately known why the woman drove onto the wrong side of the street, but there was no indication that the accident was alcohol-related, Faust said. The Bronco came to rest on its roof, with the passenger compartment largely collapsed. Southbound lanes on Bolsa Chica were closed to accommodate an investigation.
