A Long Beach man was shot and killed and a suspect arrested in what Long Beach police on Monday said was not a gang-related killing.

The suspect, 21, of Long Beach, has not been identified due to the ongoing investigation by the Long Beach Police Department, said spokeswoman Lisa Massacani via e-mailed news release. The victim is Isaac Preciado, 18, of Long Beach, City News Service reported.

The suspect allegedly "surrendered" himself at the police station at about 9 p.m. Sunday, about nine hours after the gunshot victim was found, said Massacani. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Sunday morning, a few minutes before noon--and a morning after thousands of cyclists were occupying Long Beach streets for Tour of Long Beach - the Long Beach Fire Department summoned officers to the 1100 block of Linden Avenue about a man who had been wounded in the chest and was lying in the roadway, the department said. The victim was taken by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics to an unnamed hospital, where he soon was pronounced dead, according to Massacani.

"At this time it is unknown where the shooting occurred. It is not being investigated as a gang-related crime, and the motive is still under investigation," Massacani's news release stated. "The victim is only being identified as an 18-year-old Hispanic male resident of Long Beach."

Anyone who may have information about the shooting is asked to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire or Greg Krabbe at (562) 570-7244.
