Long Beach Man Dies Wednesday After Being Shot

Police describe a drive-by shooting in which the victim was wounded while with a group of other males, is 2.5 miles from Belmont Shore and possibly gang-related.

A 21-year-old Long Beach man died Wednesday after he was shot from a passing car on 6th Street - 2.5 miles from Belmont Shore - the night before in what was being investigated as possibly gang-related.

The victim, identified by Long Beach Police Department as Gelacio Medina Ramirez, was wounded at least once as he stood in an alley with acquaintances about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, said police department spokeswoman Lisa Massacani in a press release. The 1000 block location on E. 6th Street is 2.78 miles from East Livingston Drive and 39th.

According to police, the victim was shot from a passing car from which no words were exchanged. The car was last seen headed west towards Alamitos Avenue, Massacani wrote.

It was the latest in a string of young male fatal shootings in the city. There was no suspect or getaway car description.
