Curfew in Effect Over Winter Break

LBPD reminds parents and kids that curfew rules are in effect during winter break.

As Long Beach students enjoy their winter break, which will last through the new year, the Long Beach Police Department would like to remind parents and students alike about the citywide curfew.

The LBPD wants parents to be aware of Section 9.58.010 of the Long Beach Municipal Code which states: “It is unlawful for any minor under the age of eighteen (18) years to remain in or upon any ‘public place’ as defined in Section 9.02.090, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following day.”

The police department is concerned for the safety of minors who are on the streets after curfew. A press release stated that minors out after curfew are more likely to become victims of violent crime and are more likely to be involved in criminal behavior.

Curfews will be enforced by the LBPD, which is asking parents for their help in ensuring all children are home before curfew.

“Curfew laws protect minors and keep them safe, and Long Beach Police officers will enforce this law with your child’s safety in mind," reads the release. "By working together, we can help provide your young people a safe and enjoyable winter break."
