Long Beach Captain Washed Overboard

He was bound for Marina del Rey when struck by a large wave, and aided by someone who spotted him in the water.

Paramedics and Los Angeles County lifeguards helped a boat captain Thursday evening who had sailed from Long Beach and had been washed overboard by a large wave, according to a news release from the Fire Department.

Captain David Glenn, 47, was sailing from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey when he hit rough weather, according to the news release. He tried to find shelter in King Harbor but couldn't get through the entrance and hit the rocks near on the .

Chris Keenan, a bystander, apparently saw Glenn and jumped in the chilly water to help him out, the fire department said.

The Fire Department—including the Harbor Patrol—responded to a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m. and arrived at the scene less than five minutes later.  Paramedics treated Glenn for minor cuts and scrapes from the rocks, and helped Glenn and Keenan warm up.
