LB Teen in Friday Night Fatality Played for Millikan

The young man and another youth were crossing a street when one was struck and killed.

The name of the young man fatally struck by a car while crossing a Long Beach street was released late Sunday by authorities.

Brian Beato, 15, of Long Beach, was struck by a westbound Honda Civic on Spring Street near Stevely Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Friday. He was declared dead at Los Alamitos Medical Center, at 10 p.m., an Orange County Coroner's press release said.

A memorial video posted online shows Beato playing baseball with the Millikan High School Rams.

Police want to talk to another young man or boy who was with the fatally struck youth, but he ran off after the accident, Long Beach police Sgt. David Marander said.

The woman driving the Honda was not cited, pending the outcome of a traffic investigation. Anyone who may have seen the accident was asked to call Detective Richard Birdsall at (562) 570-7355.
