Murder Suspects Charged with Gunning Down Teen

Two brothers and a juvenile were arrested a week ago by Long Beach police, who disclosed it after criminal charges were filed in the 2010 slaying.

Two brothers and a 17-year-old were charged Monday with murder and gang enhancements for the Sept. 25, 2010, shooting attack on a 19-year-old Long Beach man in broad daylight, Long Beach police announced. The suspects were arrested a week ago, and formally charged in court Monday, according to a department statement not released until Wednesday.

Omar Brown, 19, was walking to a friend's house about 1:30 p.m. near 10th Street and Martin Luther King Avenue when he was approached by a group of males, one of whom he'd had a prior confrontation with. Brown was shot several times in the "upper torso," the attack was reported to police and he was declared dead at the hospital, the press release states.

Detectives eventually learned the names of three suspects allegedly involved in the attack, all three of them reportedly gang members, the police department said, although there was no explanation as to when they were identified.

Arrested at their Long Beach homes Thursday -- as search warrants were served -- were Justin Parham, 19, Byron Parham, 18, and a male 17-year-old who was not named due to his being a juvenile, the release said. The L.A. County District Attorney filed criminal charges against the three Monday, Long Beach police said.

"The two brothers are being held on $1 million bail at the Los Angeles County Jail.  The juvenile is being held without bail at a county juvenile facility.

"Detectives believe there were other individuals with the three suspects at the time of the murder and the investigation remains ongoing.  There were also numerous witnesses on the street at the time of the shooting and detectives are strongly encouraging them to come forward," the press release concludes.
