Hazmat, Bomb Squad Respond to Suspicious Package at Port
The package turned out to be harmless despite two workers reporting a foul odor coming from it.
A misaddressed 8 1/2-by-11 package found at an industrial complex on Terminal Island today triggered a hazardous material and bomb squad response, but it was eventually determined to be harmless.
Two port employees reported smelling a foul odor coming from the box at 799 S. Seaside Ave. about 1 p.m., according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both employees, who complained of nausea, were checked out by paramedics, Main said. She could not confirm reports both were port police officers.

A hazardous materials team and bomb squad eventually determined the package was harmless, Main said. The package contained some type of plastic. Authorities cleared the scene about 3:45 p.m.
The package was addressed to someone not at the business. An Internet search for that address shows the address is occupied by Exxon Mobil Corp.
