'Repugnant' Child Porn Lands Former Long Beach Resident in Prison

Police said the former LAPD 911 operator had photos of infants being sexually assaulted and small children in bondage.

A former Long Beach resident and Los Angeles Police Department 911 operator was sentenced to six years in federal prison Thursday after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

Lancaster resident Brandon Simpson, 28, pleaded guilty in June 2012 to one count of receiving child pornography after he was arrested during an investigation into a peer-to-peer network in 2011, police said.

During his trial, United States District Attorney John Kronstadt said that the child pornography found on Simpson's computer was "repugnant" and included images of infants being sexually assaulted.

At the time of his arrest, police said investigators found more than 600 images of child pornography on Simpson's computer during a search of his former Long Beach residence.

According to a sentencing memorandum filed by prosecutors, some of the images on Simpson's computer portrayed bondage of "very small children," LAPD said in a release.

"The charges against (Simpson) are serious and involve the exploitation of the most vulnerable people in the community, children," the memorandum stated.

According to LAPD spokesperson Thom Mrozek, Simpson was fired from the department in 2012.

The investigation that led to Simpson's arrest was conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force which included help from U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement, the Homeland Security Investigations unit and the Los Angeles Police Department.
