Firefighter Injured Battling House Blaze

The injured firefighter was treated and released from the USC Burn Center.

A Long Beach fireman received 2nd-degree burns fighting a house fire early Sunday morning on the 2400 block of Roswell Avenue, officials said.

Firefighters arriving about 6 a.m. found a single-story home engulfed in flames, according to a statement by the Long Beach Fire Department.

The occupant of the home and his dog were able to get out on their own and suffered no injuries.

The injured firefighter suffered 2nd-degree burns to his ears, neck, and knees, officials said. He was taken to Long Beach Memorial for evaluation and then transferred to the USC Burn Center where he was treated and released. 

The cause of the blaze was under investigation; a damage estimate was not immediately available.
