A fire and two crashes occurred in Long Beach Wednesday, the crashes trapping and injuring some and killing one.
The fire broke out about 7:30 a.m. in the detached garage of an abandoned home in the 700 block of Lime Avenue, officials said.
No injuries were reported and the fire was quickly put out.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
At 11 a.m., a crash on the Long Beach (710) Freeway -- involving two vehicles, two big rigs and a Caltrans street sweeper -- trapped two people, claiming the life of one and critically injuring the other.
The Long Beach Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Task Force went to the scene to assist
with the complex extrication, officials said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
About 1:40 p.m., another multi-vehicle injury crash occurred on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway, this one at the 91 Freeway, officials said.
One person was trapped and three people were taken to area hospitals.
