DUI Patrols Hiked for July 4th Weekend

The county's DUI task force warns that officers will be out in force this Fourth of July weekend to snare drunk and drug-impaired motorists because the Independence Day weekend is considered among the deadliest to be on the road.

DUI patrols are scheduled for undisclosed locations on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Long Beach and Signal Hill, and on Friday in Lakewood. (See the complete list below.)

The Avoid the 100 DUI Task Force offers these tips to avoid arrest:

• Plan a safe way home before the fun begins; 
• Before drinking, designate a sober driver; 
• If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation; 
• Use your community’s sober ride program 
• If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to report it - Call 911! 

• And remember, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
