UPCOMING DUI/DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECKPOINT
The Long Beach Police Department’s Traffic Section will staff a DUI/Drivers license checkpoint Friday, September 13, in North Division, between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday.Long Beach police Officers will contact drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.
Proper licensing of drivers will also be checked, as will possible arrest warrant information.
Delays to motorists, if any, are expected to be only momentary. When possible, specially trained officers will also be available to evaluate those drivers suspected of drug-impaired driving.
All impaired drivers can expect to be jailed and their licenses suspended; insurance costs will increase.
Consequent fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses can exceed $10,000, officials said.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Long Beach Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
