The Long Beach Police Department plans to set up a checkpoint tonight to snare intoxicated motorists and check for valid drivers licenses. It will occur from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Jan. 22, somewhere in the LBPD's East Division, which includes Naples and Belmont Shore.
Depending on traffic and weather, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested, the LBPD says.
Funds for the checkpoint come from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. And as always, the police encourage the public to call 9-1-1 if they see a driver who seems intoxicated.
