Driver Dies in Terminal Island Big Rig Crash

A small SUV collided with a big rig near the eastern end of the Vincent Thomas Bridge on Terminal Island today, killing the SUV driver, authorities said.

The crash on the eastbound side of Seaside (47) Freeway just west of Navy Way was reported at 2:34 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the big rig was uninjured, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The drivers were their vehicles' sole occupants, he said.

The crash closed the eastbound Vincent Thomas Bridge and the Ferry Street onramp to the eastbound 47 freeway, according to the CHP.
