Dorner's Local Teammates Facebook Their Memories

LaPalma's Kennedy High classmates of manhunt subject Christopher Dorner recall football player who confronted coach, was forced to transfer schools, while Washington psychologist weighs in.

Former classmates of Christopher Jordan Dorner recall an act of rebellion at LaPalma's John F. Kennedy High School that suddenly seemed newsworthy given he's now an accused triple-murderer targeted in a sweeping manhunt.

On Facebook, one former classmate asked in amazement: “Is that the guy who flipped off Coach … during the game?”

Several classmates replied: “Yes.”

Friday, a clinical psychologist at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. confirmed to a Patch editor the anger his classmates say they saw more than a decade ago.

“You see a very fine line between homicide and suicide here—narcissism and depression are highly correlated,” said Dr. Alan J. Lipman, the psychologist, and founder of the Center for the Study of Violence.

“You usually see them together. ...It wouldn’t surprise me if he kills himself.

“The other possibility is that he puts himself in a situation where he can be seen and caught—not because he wants to be stopped but because he wants to be seen and to confront his accusers.”

The ex-Navy, ex-LAPD officer wanted for the slayings of three people and an assault on Southern California law enforcement is probably an extremely thin-skinned, narcissistic depressive as likely to kill himself as he is to be caught.

In Dorner’s manifesto, Lipman said, "the terms that are repeated over and over again indicate that he is completely enraged and enraged at what he regards as the injustice of his firing and, most importantly as he sees it, how it has destroyed his name. And that is intolerable to him.

“He describes himself as having been depressed for a number of years and sees himself as destroyed and unlikely to live through this episode. This is a person hopeless about life, hopeless and envisioning vengeance and going out in a blaze of glory.

“We have seen this before in cases such as Columbine.”

Someone with this degree of narcissism has likely always been highly sensitive to perceived slights as reflected in his manifesto, which alludes to ‘injustices’ going back to his childhood, Lipman said in a phone interview.

Dorner spent his childhood in La Palma, where he attended Walker Junior High and John F. Kennedy High School. His mother, Nancy Dorner, still lives there and her home was searched Friday by police.

On Facebook, when contacted, several former classmates asked that their names not be published for fear of retaliation from Dorner.

Dorner was a football player on Kennedy’s Fighting Irish varsity team.

One classmate recalled Dorner’s tense relationship with the then-coach that ended with his removal from the team. Classmates say he had a reputation for being confrontational.

Most reacted with shock when they discovered their connection to the suspect.

According to his manifesto, Dorner’s life unraveled when he was fired from the LAPD in 2008 for making false statements against another officer.

According to Dorner, the proceedings that led to his 2008 firing from the police force were rigged against him.

He goes into detail about how his complaint against a fellow officer—now a sergeant—alleging brutality against a detainee resulted in his being the target of retaliation by superiors.

“I’ve lost a relationship with my mother and sister because of the LAPD,” he wrote. “I’ve lost a relationship with close friends because of the LAPD.

“In essence, I’ve lost everything because the LAPD took my name and knew I was innocent. ... The attacks will stop when the [Los Angeles Police] Department states the truth about my innocence.”

This idea that he could clear his name by going on a killing spree illustrates just how delusional Dorner has become, Lipman said.

“You can see he has delusions of grandeur. He envisions that he is going to change the entire course of justice and the moral code of the LAPD,” Lipman said.

If Dorner is still alive, his mind is likely a battlefield in which rage, guilt and attraction to media attention war with one another, Lipman said.

Perhaps Ruehle should learn just a little more about all the things the Auditor's Office *does* do,Read More before whining and complaining about all of the things it doesn't. http://www.cityauditorlauradoud.com/office-of-the-auditor.shtml Beyond routinely identifying many areas of waste, fraud, and abuse in City government, the Auditor's office conducts a great deal of non audit-related services each year. Ruehle's comments seem to connote a belief that City Auditor Doud is somehow responsible for investigating and reporting on every bad decision the Council makes or every instance of questionable affiliation found throughout City government. She is not and even if she were, Long Beach taxpayers do not provide her with sufficient resources to do so. Despite that Ms. Doud is, herself, a citywide elected official, and despite her office's consistently excellent work-product, she can only fact-find and report her findings. Beyond her own office, she has no authority to mandate changes in the way other City officials conduct the people's business. Since her initial election in 2006, Ms. Doud's office has uncovered -and reported upon- millions and millions of dollars worth of fraud, waste, and abuse in City government. That's not sufficient for Ruehle who, despite all his complaints, will never consider running for that office himself and showing us all how much better *he* could do.

"...this article is saying that the fact that the city of Long Beach extorts millions ofRead More dollars from its residents in the form of RIDICULOUS parking tickets and charges outrageous fines for them is to be applauded?" No. There is actually nothing in this article that says that but please enjoy these lovely parting gifts.

What has City Auditor Laura Doud done since her re-election other than support anything wanted byRead More Foster & Delong. Maybe people should ask: 1. Why didn't Doud audit the city's transaction where city owned valuable port property was exchanged for swamp land? There certainly was enough controversy about the value of each asset. Wasn't it her job as the taxpayer's representative to look into it? 2. Why didn't Doud audit the amount of taxpayer's money used to support the 2nd & PCH project and the Home Depot project before that. The city was supposed to be compensated by the Developers for ALL of their costs, including meeting costs. However, that is NOT what happened. Millions of taxpayer's dollars where gifted to certain politically connected developers. 3. Why hasn't Doud audited the $1 dollar per year no-bid contracts of valuable city taxpayer owned ocean front property to the Long Beach Yacht Club, Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and other exclusive members only clubs for the wealthy and politically connected do determine what the value of an alternative use might be? 4. Why hasn't Doud audited the exclusive, no-bid, for-profit lease of city owned waterfront property to Steve Conley's and John Hancock's BANCAP company that has made those two men tremendously wealthy at the expense of Long Beach taxpayers? Doud started out with a bang when first elected. Since then, she has been a crony for anything Foster and DeLong related.
