CHP to Up Labor Day Weekend Patrols

The full force press aims to reduce highway deaths from drunk driving and other traffic violations.

Belmont Shore drivers out and about this Labor Day weekend might see more law enforcement officials on the roads as the California Highway Patrol deploys more officers to look for drunk drivers and others breaking traffic laws.

The CHP will begin a "maximum enforcement period" from 6 p.m. tonight until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said.

"Celebrate the Labor Day weekend, but remember to celebrate safely," Farrow said. "There is no excuse for driving while intoxicated. Designate a non-drinking driver before you head out, and always ensure that everyone in the vehicle is buckled up."
