Eighteen vehicles were impounded for 30 days during a driver's license/sobriety checkpoint in Carson, a sheriff's sergeant said today.

Seventeen unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court during the checkpoint on Sante Fe Avenue, just north of El Presidio Street that began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:30 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Craig Calzada of the sheriff's Carson station.

Nine motorists driving on a suspended or revoked license were arrested and sent to court. One person was arrested and sent to court for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive, Calzada said. Deputies also arrested a motorist for suspicion of drunken driving.
