Candidates for Fire Service in LA Given a Chance to Prepare

The Los Angeles County Fire Department will host seminars to help potential firefighters get ready for jobs that may open up later this year, officials said.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department announced today that it will host seminars to help potential firefighters get ready for jobs that may open up later this year.

Firefighters and human resource professionals will staff nine sessions in Carson, Pomona and the Antelope Valley, starting Saturday at the Carson Community Center and running through at least May.

The department is not currently hiring and officials could not say exactly when the new jobs would open up. But it can take six months just to get in shape for the required physical fitness test, according to a department recruiter. Candidates must also pass a written test and a background check, in addition to interviewing for the posts.
