Body of Man Found in Long Beach

The victim has not been identified.

Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives Sunday night were investigating the discovery of a man's body in a van found in an unincorporated area of Long Beach, following a minor hit and run accident.

The death was reported at 4 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of East Madison Street, Deputy Mark Pope of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said. The victim -- who was not identified -- was pronounced dead at the scene, Pope said.

According to published reports, the incident started when the van was involved in a minor crash nearby, sideswiping a vehicle. Witnesses located the blue and white van on Madison Street and notified the sheriff's department. Deputies found the man in the back of the van and found another man with multiple injuries -- believed to have been trying to kill himself. He was transported to a hospital. Both were about 60 years old, according to homicide Detective Eddie Brown.
