A prayer vigil was underway today through 4 p.m. at the East Long Beach church where yesterday a passerby found the bodies of a 9-year-old girl and her guardian. The girl was dead, the man thought to be her guardian had allegedly stabbed himself and police are still trying to sort out the disturbing crime in the suburban Los Altos neighborhood near Willow Street and the San Diego Freeway.

The ceremony is being held at Los Altos United Methodist Church at 5950 East Willow Street.

News of the finding in broad daylight of a child and adult lacerated in a Long Beach church parking lot grew even darker with reports that a note written in blood on a wall and paper were found by the bodies.

The Long Beach Police Department has said the man was the girl's parent and guardian, but on Sunday did not immediately confirm the report by the KTLA news station, and picked up by the L.A. Times website. It featured an image of lettering on a dumpster side that appeared to read Film This above where the bodies were found.

But detectives Sunday were still seeking what prompted the murder of a 9-year-old Long Beach girl, who was found dead beside a man police identified as her Dad or stepfather. Long Beach spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said the girl was allegedly killed by the man, and the department is not naming either.

A woman taking a short-cut through the Los Altos United Methodist Church parking lot came upon the bodies at 11 a.m. Saturday and called police. She told reporters that the man was still alive and muttered "other daughter," but due to a lot of blood, she was not sure what she'd found.
