Long Beach 'Bash Mob' Attackers Are No-Shows

A threatened "Bash Mob" attack in downtown Long Beach that drew a formidable police and TV news vans did not materialize by nightfall, police said late Friday.

"There are no reported incidents relating to the Bash Mob," said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. "We are pleased that this afternoon's event did not come to fruition, and are continuously monitoring the situation should something change."

Organized via social media as a 2 p.m. Friday assault on innocent passersby in The Pike entertainment center, police were staged to handle a widespread breakout of roaming assailants that struck in a "Bash Mob" July 9th in the same area, Pratt said.

The July 9th group attack in the same location by more than 100 people, most teenagers, left property damaged and people grabbed for electronics and other such items, police said. Detectives investigating that event learned of a planned event for Friday.
