Update: Baby Girl, Parents Killed in Long Beach Crash

The crash occurred on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Long Beach.

A baby girl and her parents were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on the southbound in Long Beach, authorities said today.

The crash was reported at 10:55 p.m. Monday south of , said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

The girl and her father were pronounced dead at the scene, said Capt. Rich Brandt of the Long Beach Fire Department. All three victims were trapped and had to be freed by firefighters, Brandt said. The car came to rest on Union Pacific railroad tracks that run parallel to the freeway, Brandt said.

The father was identified as Abel Israel Gutierrez, 20, and his daughter was Sophia Gutierrez, who was two months old, Assistant Chief Ed Winter told the City News Service.

The name of the 19-year-old woman was withheld, pending notification of her next of kin.  Acccording to the CHP, the mother "for unknown reasons, lost control" of the vehicle turning to the right, possibly causing the 2001 Ford Explorer to crash.

The mother was originally taken the hospital in "very critical'' condition, but later succumbed to her injuries, Martin told Patch.

The CHP is in charge of the investigation.
