Arrest Made in Phillips Street Shooting

The victim is 18-year-old Jamal Lindsey

Long Beach Police Department officers have arrested 20-year-old Derome Harper in connection with the fatal shooting on Phillips Street Saturday evening.

According to a statement released by the Long Beach Police Department, Harper was booked for murder on Sunday and is being held at Long Beach City Jail without bail.

The shooting took place Saturday at around 9:10 p.m. near the 1200 Block of Phillips Street. Officers were responding to an unrelated shooting incident near the intersection of Locust Avenue and Home Street when they were approached by a female motorist, who was attemping to escort the victim, Jamal Lindsey, to the hospital.

Officers immediately transported Lindsey, 18, to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation conducted by LBPD found that Lindsey "and a male acquaintance were involved in a dispute in the 1200 block of Phillips Street.  When the victim got into a vehicle to leave the location, the male acquaintance fired at the victim, striking him multiple times in the upper torso."
