"A Good Man," 60, Was Shot and Killed in Long Beach

A friend commented that Marvin Williams "will be greatly missed," as police say they have no motive for the attack Wednesday night, and are seeking the public's help.

A 60-year-old man was shot and killed in North Long Beach Wednesday evening, and detectives are hoping someone saw something that might shed light on the motive or suspects.

Marvin Williams of Long Beach was apparently confronted by someone prior to being shot in the ''torso" about 6:40 p.m. in the 200 block of East Arbor Street, a Long Beach Police Department news release stated. Police summoned to a report of gun shots arrived to the neighborhood south of Del Amo Boulevard to find Williams on the ground, although the release did not state whether Williams was outdoors or indoors.

A friend named Kellie Reed posted a comment on LBReport.com's story that said:

"Marvin was a good man. He tried to keep the kids off drugs and he worked the oil fields for years, which destroyed his back. This shooting was cruel and for those who know and love Marvin, he will be greatly missed. The [jerk] who did this will get jail, and we will all be sure [of that]. By the way ... this is an RV mobile home park where he lived and worked often. It's Bixby Knolls and the cops need to patrol this area. There is a police substation right next door in the beautiful park."

The wounded Williams was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive the shooting, police said. Anyone with information is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Scott Lasch and Donald Goodman at (562) 570-7244.  Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.
