Poll: Does Public Like Twinkies More Than the Labor Unions Behind Them?

Hostess and major employee group announced mediation plans Monday in bid to avert shutdown.

Twinkies will never die, of course. Besides being able to survive nuclear war, their recipe and branding can be sold to another baker if Hostess goes out of business. But hopes rose for the iconic company Monday with the news that Hostess Brands Inc. will take part in mediation talks with the striking Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. The move averted a liquidation—which led lovers of Twinkies and other confections to buy up stocks at their local stores. So the Los Angeles and Orange County fairs have likely not seen their last deep-fried Twinkie. But what about the unions that make them?
