Dear Neighbors...

Dear Neighbors, Have you heard the difference? I stopped playing the drums. I know I have been bothering you for some time and I'm sorry. The drums were a natural extension of my love for music. You must know that I didn't even fit the stereotype of a rock-and-roll kind of guy. I have short hair. I read TIME magazine. I make it a policy of not doing any drugs or alcohol and I play three rounds of golf each week as a member of the varsity golf team at Polytechnic High School. I go to sleep at 9:30 pm and I like to play monopoly. I am not a bad kid. But I know it hasn't sounded that way. I like to do those drum rolls that you hate. I took drum lessons and played in a few garage bands. But after seeing closer the havoc I'm causing and the strain on my mom -- who works at home -- I alone decided to take a hiatus. I'll be playing electric guitar. My friend, Travis, and I, in fact, will be playing classic jazz tunes such as "Take the A Train," "Take 5" and "Oleo" at some local coffee shops should you give me a chance to impress you with my musical prowess.  By the way, it's not a new thing. When I was five, I told my mom i wanted to play the piano so she bought me a used one. Then I wanted to learn violin so she got me that. Then there was the guitar and then the bass and then those darn drums. About two years ago, after playing those drums for some time, I was surprised to find the police at our door at 4 pm in the afternoon. Our neighbor had complained about the sound. And so began the barrage of complaints that has never stopped. So the neighbors likely wonder -- what was I doing? Well, I was recording music with equipment I bought by doing small jobs. I recorded songs where I play drums, guitar and sing. In others, I played keyboards, bass and sang. This was creative expression that was never intended to upset anyone. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer. Please write if you want to know where I’ll be playing In the meantime, please listen to this link. This one is for you.
