Keep On Food Truckin': Long Beach Zombie Walk

The scariest 5k walk you will ever see.

Is this a zombie apocalypse? Nope, it’s just Long Beach’s fifth annual Zombie Walk. The Shoreline Village played host to this creepy 5k walk and festival on Saturday Oct. 27. Starting at 3p.m., zombies and monsters alike hobbled there way into this family friendly event to show their Halloween spirit. This day long, 15-dollar festival had everything from bands, games and my favorite, food trucks. There was even a screening of the movie Shaun of the Dead and a thriller dance flash mob!

What is a zombie walk?  It is a charity event that raises money for the Long Beach Cinematheque, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the exhibition of classic and contemporary cinema and multimedia art. People dressed to kill with perfect representations of the living dead. I saw everything from freakishly real looking open wounds to zombiefied celebrity look alkies. This event brought out the inner zombie in everyone and in perfect time for Halloween.

There were carnival games and fun vendors with shopping and photo booths to keep every one entertained. Bands, with Halloween themed names, played all day and night to provide this massive event with the perfect ghoulish background tune. The concerts even continued out side of the venue and into the Shoreline Village. I had a chance to catch a band called The Spell who gave a cool modern sound to the surrounding madness.

There were NINE food trucks surrounding the interior of the zombie walk. It was a lot of food, and I, of course, could not get to all trucks, but they all had buzz surrounding them. There were many “big name” restaurants that have converted to the trendy food truck lifestyle. Red Robin, Johnny Rockets, and George's Greek were there, just to name a few. These trucks were obviously a hit with the hungry zombies because everywhere I look there were ravenous monsters devouring delicious food. Thank god they weren’t real zombies.

This event really did bring out the scary side of everyone, but I only met the nicest people. Even though they were dressed of monsters right out of my nightmares, the people that attended and hosted the even were nothing but pleasant. I am so happy I attended and can’t wait for next year!
