Lazy Acres Opens: It's Like an Indoor Farmer's Market

Lazy Acres, formerly Bristol Farms, is now open, and an indoor farmers market, with ready-made packs ranging from health-conscious candy to ancient grains and dried fruit.

Long Beach welcomed its first Lazy Acres this week, and I couldn't be happier. Wednesday, November 7,

Lazy Acres aims to be the best source for wholesome, natural, and organic foods and products. They have a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables, organic dairy products, organic cheeses and wines from both local and world wide suppliers, natural and organic beef with no added hormones or antibiotics, free range poultry, fresh wild-caught seafood and a large selection of quality supplements and natural body care products.

It seemed as if all of Long Beach had been waiting for a Lazy Acres to appear at its grand opening, which I attended Wednesday (Nov. 7). There was a huge crowd of over 100 people and a line that stretched around the corner of the store. Even Mayor Bob Foster came out to do a celebratory ribbon cutting to let the crowd in.

The newly renovated store was beautiful. The large staff was more than happy to help find anything in the store and lend their own opinions on certain products. The store comes packed with a bakery, cappuccino bar, floral department, juice bar, and many other departments that will have your mouth watering. The meat department had a huge variety of delicious meats. The tri tip was to die for. A huge open salad bar provided customers with most any type of salad or pasta they could imagine. Another thing that caught my eye was the fresh wild-caught seafood department. There is a self-serving seafood salad bar where customers can make their own ceviche.

The store reminded me almost of an indoor farmers market. There were fresh self-serving containers that were filled with everything from health conscious candy to ancient grains to dried fruit.

Although this store may be out of my college-student price range, it does offer many discounts and deals that can bring in the average shopper. Lazy Acres offers weekly specials and “Lazy Thursday’s” which bring special additional discounts on only Thursdays.

Lazy Acres is located on Bellflower and Sterns next to the Sears pavilion. If you are looking for a natural and organic grocery store, Lazy Acres is the place to go.
