Last Day is Sunday to Enter House Lights Contest

Tonight's the last night: take a photo of your holiday lights, download, upload to our story link, done. Finalists win $500 for their electricity bill, and 1st place wins $100,000 for our school district!

Sunday is the final day to enter a chance to win half a year's electricity bill paid, and ultimately, $100,000 for Long Beach Unified School District. All you need to do is take about 60 seconds to enter.

With Naples Island's winter wornderland, the historic homes of Bluff Park on Ocean Avenue, and other beauties from the East Side of town, the question is:

How can our community NOT win this thing?

Patch's annual Deck the House Contest seeks to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country. Expensive decorations are not necessary, but you do want it to be a bedazzling display.

If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page before Sunday, Dec. 16. The direct link is http://deckthehouse.patch.com/contest/belmontshore

Fifth District Long Beach City Council Member Gerrie Schipske has challenged the rest of the city to compete for the contest.

"The winner will receive $500 to pay their electric bill and $100,000 for their local schools. Popular internet community news site, Belmont Shore Patch will post videos and photographs of homes decorated in Christmas lights.

Fifth District residents are asked to send their videos and photographs to be posted on www.District5Lights.com and then sent along to Belmont Shore Patch for entry in the contest. (Note: entries must be posted to the above Patch link)

"This is a great way to help our local schools and show off our holiday spirit in the 5th District," declared Councilwoman Schipske blogged about the contest.

REMEMBER, WE CAN'T ENTER FOR YOU.

Only residents of Patch towns - in other words, Long Beach - are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district.
