First Seal Born at the Aquarium Goes Public Today

She's been nursed and taught the ropes by Mom Shelby since her April birth. Now the only seal born at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific can be seen by visitors starting Tuesday.

You might have watched her maiden voyage--tens of thousands did--or just heard about the first seal born at the Aquarium of the Pacific. But the female that was birthed April 26 at the downtown Long Beach facility will make her public view in the seal habitat after a big press conference and photo op.

During the morning media date, Aquarium officials will announce the seal's name, for which Patch readers offered all sorts of ideas that were passed on to those at the Aquarium who decide.

Then, at 9 a.m., visitors can take a look for themselves. Check back with Patch Tuesday for photos as the flippered one goes public.
