The largest volunteer event in the state is being held today and residents can take an active role in keeping the coastline clean and healthy.
Residents are invited to take part in the California Coastal Cleanup event; they should use reusable bags or buckets and gardening or work gloves to pick up trash and limit the amount of trash created by the cleaners. Bags and gloves will also be provided.
The event is slated from 9 a.m. to noon and the sites to be targeted include Alamitos Beach, Alamitos Bay Marina, Belmont Pier, Bluff Park and Mother's Beach.
All participants must sign a liability waiver form. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for him or her.
