Long Beach City Documents You Should Read
City documents on new casino in Hawaiian Gardens, $1 million dollars for Chittick Field and recap of process for City to receive $4.6 million in surplus property for an eastside police substation.
In my on going attempt to make Long Beach city government as open and transparent as possible I would like to share with you three important documents just received on my desk (with links to the full documents):
1) The City of Long Beach will receive $1 million dollars from oil giant Oxy Petroleum through Partners of Parks. The funds will be utilized for the redevelopment of Chittick Field in Hamilton Bowl for sports fields.

2) The City of Long Beach responded to the draft EIR on proposed new casino in Hawaiian Gardens. The present card club will be demolished a permanent two story structure will be built. I reviewed the City's response before it was submitted and raised concerns about impact on traffic going in and out of El Dorado Park Estates but our City Traffic engineer does not believe it will impact that street. Concern was raised about Carson, Los Coyotes and Palos Verde.

3) City Attorney Robert Shannon has provided a recap of the process the City of Long Beach has been involved with regarding the receipt of $4.6 million in surplus property from the US Army and US HUD. The Schroeder Army Reserve is being given to the City for use as a police substation with the condition the City provides property for a homeless services provider, Mental Health America. The proposed property for MHA is located adjacent to Schroeder Army Reserve at Grand Avenue and Burnett Street on property occupied by the City's Health and Human Services Department. Because of community concern about the location of the homeless services program, I have been advocating for an alternate site and have suggested several potential locations. Use of the Army property for a police substation will save the City of Long Beach hundreds of thousands dollars in rent paid for other locations.
