East Long Beach Soccer Fields Joint Stakeholder Meeting

Councilmembers Schipske, O’Donnell to Hold Joint Stakeholder Meeting to Discuss Funding, Maintenance for East Long Beach Soccer Fields

Long Beach, CA – January 24, 2014 – Fourth District Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell and Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske will host a community meeting at El Dorado Community Center to offer an update on funding for East Long Beach soccer fields at 6 pm, Thursday January 30.

Parks, Recreation, and Marine representatives will be on hand to answer questions regarding field usage and maintenance, funding, and other topics that may affect participants in soccer programs at eastside parks.

“This joint meeting hosted by both the Fourth and Fifth districts provides a great opportunity for soccer families to learn about what is involved in the maintenance and care of the fields they use, how our Parks, Recreation, and Marine department works hard to keep the fields in top shape for the sport,” explained Councilwoman Schipske, "We will be discussing the recent appropriation of $2.1 million dollars for our city’s soccer fields and how this will impact the eastside.”

“As a parent and a teacher, I know the importance of supporting youth sports programs," said O’Donnell. “This meeting will be an opportunity for the public to offer input as to how we can best support our local soccer programs and the facilities they use. Our families should not have to travel to another city to find quality sports facilities, including decent soccer fields, O’Donnell has been the leading voice to ensure more funding and focus is invested in youth sports facilities across the city. Last year his efforts led to more than $2 million being allocated to upgrade soccer fields.
