Gov. Jerry Brown endorsed the Long Beach mayoral campaign of Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal today.

"Bonnie Lowenthal has the experience, the vision and the independence to be a great mayor," Brown said of the Long Beach Democrat.

Last week, outgoing Mayor Bob Foster threw his support behind Councilman Robert Garcia.

Garcia and Lowenthal are among 10 candidates seeking the mayor's office. Also in the race are Long Beach City College Trustee Doug Otto, Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, investor Damon Dunn, nonprofit executive Jana Shields, Eric Rock, businessman Richard Camp, Mineo Gonzalez and Steven Mozena.

The election is scheduled for April 8, with a runoff planned in June if needed.

One liberal career politician endorsing another liberal career politician. Yip, that's what Long Beach needs....more of the predominantly left-leaning politics that has dominated the City (and state) for the past 50 years. Will Long Beach (and California) never learn?
