VIDEO: Long Beach Joins 130 Cities in MedMob

Today's public meditation is promoted in 130 cities' public places.

Any event with the word mob in it seems far from relaxing, but that's what MedMob's supposed to accomplish today in 130 communities around the world, including Long Beach.

Group public meditation is what the MedMob's all about. At MedMob.com's Facebook page, you can see Turin, italy, MedMobbing.

In hopes of rejuvenating body and mind, numerous people are expected to gather from 12-1 p.m. at the Long Beach Civic Center clock tower as part of an international grassroots drive to breathe deeply and find inner calm for a better world.

Long Beach's event is billed by organizers as a comforting meditation session and "sound bath" hosted by MedMob Long Beach.

What is MedMob? MedMob, mirrored after popular flash mobs, was created by individuals in Austin, Texas this year, Long Beach organizers said. The movement immediately inspired others to find better peace of mind through the practice of meditation in a public space. Within a couple of months, the movement’s mission spread to several cities throughout world, including Long Beach.

Long Beach’s first meditation mob made history last month, with over 70 individuals participating at the City Palace Shopping Center. Proponents say the benefits of meditation provide individuals with a peace of mind including improvements in physical and mental health.

MedMob devotees will especially be prominent during the week of August 25 to Sunday, August 28th. The International Day of Peace will be observed on September 21, 2011.
