UPDATE: Wind Advisory Extended

Gusts of 40 mph reported early Tuesday in Long Beach and are expected to continue until 3 a.m. in other oceanfront areas as well.

The Los Angeles County coast, including Long Beach, downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Malibu, Beverly Hills and is under a National Weather Service wind advisory until 3 a.m. Tuesday. Past midnight, wind gusts of 40 m.p.h. were reported at Long Beach Airport.

The Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area will be under a wind advisory through 2 a.m. Tuesday, with northwest winds of 25-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph, and isolated gusts in excess of 55 mph. Mt. Wilson will be under a high wind warning until 9 a.m. Tuesday with northwest winds of 30-45 mph with gusts of 60 mph.

The Golden State (5) Freeway may have excessive wind gusts of 70 mph, Bill Hoffer of National Weather Service said.

A wind advisory was issued covering the San Fernando Valley through 9 a.m. Tuesday, with northwest winds of 20-35 mph and gusts to 45 mph.

Residents are encouraged to secure anything that might get tossed by the wind and motorists should guard against crosswinds that can cause loss of control, especially for those driving trucks and other high-profile vehicles.

Wind advisories are issued when winds of at least 35 mph are forecast.
