Jury Has Case of Daughter Killing Mom & Stepdad: A teenage girl was involved in planning the killings of her mother and stepfather in the family's Compton mobile home, one of the victims later buried in Long Beach, a prosecutor told jurors Thursday, but the girl's attorney said the teen is not guilty of the charges.

: Despite opposition by environmentalists, Long Beach City Hall and one of the state's largest school district concerned about children's health, the BNSF Railyway's $500 million project was approved Wednesday by the L.A. City Council. More than 500 people packed the council chamber at L.A. City Hall for the approval of BNSF Railway's half-billion-dollar near-dock rail yard.

2nd Suspect Arrested in Death of Long Beach Man Found in Burning SUV: A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of the man whose body was found in a burning car in Rancho Palos Verdes, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Deputies believe that Jose Angel Martinez, 18, of Compton, was involved in the April 23 death of Long Beach resident Christopher Waters.

Long Beach Scout 'Ranger' Won't Get Dorner Reward: Long Beach Area Boy Scout Council employee Richard Heltebrake was not among the three people chosen to receive the $1 million Christopher Dorner reward money, it was anounced Tuesday. Heltebrake, the fulltime property manager at Camp Tahquitz owned by the Long Beach Area Boy Scouts Council, was carjacked by Dorner near the camp.

It's a Boy: New Seal Pup Already Swims and Loves His Mother: In the days to come, the youngest harbor seal at the Aquarium of the Pacific will be out of public view, learning with his mother Shelby, sister Bixby and his caretakers how to fend for himself among adult seals. 

Newsweek's Top U.S. High Schools: 6 in Long Beach: Long Beach Unified can now boast that it has six of the best high schools in the country, according to Newsweek magazine's annual rankings released Monday morning. According to Newsweek and the school district, the yearly list ranks America's best 2,000 public high schools.

Man Killed in Crash on 70th Street in Long Beach: A man, who Long Beach police say "may have suffered a medical emergency," was killed Sunday morning when his truck crashed into two parked vehicles on the 3000 block of 70th Street.

Night Swimmer Rescued off Long Beach Coast: A man swimming in the dark off the Long Beach Peninsula was safe Tuesday morning after firefighters pulled him out of the ocean and into a rescue boat. The man was not identified nor his age given, nor why he was in the water nearer the Peninsula's tip and the jetty.
