Jury Awards $6.3M to Family of Man Killed by Long Beach Police: A federal court jury in Santa Ana awarded $6.5 million Thursday to the family of a 35-year-old man shot to death in 2010 by Long Beach police officers who said they thought he was holding a gun, which turned out to be a water hose handle.

Long Beach Police Hunting for Keyless Car Burglars: Long Beach police Wednesday made public video of three burglars using  handheld devices to unlock and burglarize cars. Police Chief Jim McDonnell said officers with the Auto Theft Detail were stumped about how the burglars were managing to unlock cars.

Long Beach Football Player Exonerated of Rape Signs With Falcons: A former Long Beach high school football star who spent more than five years behind bars for rape but was exonerated after his accuser recanted her story came closer to his dream of playing in the National Football League today when he was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. Brian Banks, 27, gushed thanks on his Twitter page to the team's management and players, saying, "Thank you for accepting me into the family."

Police Presence at Chavez Elementary Was Routine Training: The Long Beach Police Department conducted critical incident training on the campus of Chavez Elementary Wednesday, bringing with it the appearance of heavy police presence at the school.  Police warned residents they would see numerous officers and police cars on campus during the exercises and that gunfire may be heard.

Long Beach Men Sue JPMorgan Chase for Overtime Pay: A proposed class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in Santa Ana Tuesday alleging that JPMorgan Chase was getting around overtime laws by improperly classifying some employees involved in appraising property. The lawsuit seeks to represent about 150 appraisers seeking millions of dollars in overtime pay.

Man Pleads Guilty in Marijuana Dispensaries Case: A San Clemente man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to drug trafficking and tax evasion in connection with several marijuana stores, including two in Long Beach, that authorities say earned him about $25 million over six years.
