Sewage Spill Prompts Beach Closures

Beaches west of the Belmont Pier were closed today.

A roughly 5,500-gallon sewage spill in South Pasadena prompted Long Beach officials today to close all of its beaches west of the
Belmont Pier.

The sewage spill occurred late Saturday in the Arroyo Seco area and was caused by a sewer system blockage, according to Long Beach city officials.

Long Beach ocean waters west of the Belmont Pier will remain off-limits until tests confirm that bacteria from the sewage runoff has returned to safe levels.
