Olympian Parade Coming to Belmont Shore Sept. 15

The parade honoring Olympic athletes will include some of this year's champions as well as those from the past.

Local Olympians are set to hit the streets of Belmont Shore September 15 in a parade starting at 2 p.m. in the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool and ending up at Second Street.

Fresh from summer competitions in London, current Long Beach champions will join former Olympic athletes as they take part in an event that will have them relaxing atop floats rather than performing for a chance at a medal.

Sponsored by the City of Long Beach, the idea for the event honoring Long Beach Olympians first began with the Aquatic Capital of America organization, according to gazettes.com.

Dedicated to promoting Long Beach as “an aquatic destination for business, education, and sports on a local, national, and international basis”, the Aquatic Capital of America hosted a previous event saluting Southern California’s Olympians July 21 at the Sea Scout Base.
