Long Beach Fatal Hit-Run Defendant Pleads Not Guilty

A Bellflower man pleaded not guilty today to felony charges stemming from a crash near Long Beach City College that left a woman dead.

Mario Palafox, 21, is charged with one count each of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the crash last Wednesday that killed Elane Logay, 47, of Long Beach.

Palafox was allegedly behind the wheel of a 1992 Lexus that collided with three cars stopped in the left turn lane on Carson Street about 11:15 a.m. The Lexus struck a 1985 Toyota Supra, which hit a 2005 Scion TC that struck a 2007 Ford Mustang, police said.

Logay, who was in the Toyota, died at the scene. Palafox was arrested on the Long Beach City College campus. He remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail while awaiting his next appearance May 29 in Long Beach Superior Court.
