Locals To Enjoy Vehicle Free CicLAvia
Southern Californians are encouraged to head to the heart of Downtown L.A. this Sunday and indulge in 10 miles of open road for the chance to bike, run, walk, and play.
On Sunday the city of Los Angeles will be the venue for the third CicLAvia -- an event that makes the streets safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride bicycles.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 10 miles of space usually reserved for cars, pollution, and road-rage will be converted to public space where people are welcome to enjoy any motor-free activity.
This Sunday's featured activities include The Eagle Rock Yacht Club's dodgeball game, Sycons solar-powered DJs, and historical-photo backdrops depicting Los Angeles' history. The route also has plenty of water fountains, restrooms, bicycle-repair stations, and first-aid tents.

Origin and History
The term and idea of ciclovia originated in Bogota, Colombia. Though the literal translation of ciclovia is bicycle path, the term has come to represent a worldwide movement of closing streets -- either permanently or temporarily -- are closed to vehicles.
